Children's Dentistry

We welcome children of all ages in our Montgomery dental practice. Dr. Dominique Askew Shamburger and Dr. Carl Shamburger have considerable experience in children's dental care and invite any questions or concerns you may have about your child's oral health. Our goal is to make each visit a positive and informative experience for you and your child.

Children should visit the dentist twice a year beginning around the age of 3. At these routine appointments your child's teeth will be cleaned and examined; digital xrays will be taken of the teeth and jaw structures to help monitor development of permanent teeth and address any orthodontic conditions.

We may recommend dental sealants and fluoride treatments for your child to provide additional protection against tooth decay. Sealants are a great way to keep cavity-causing bacteria and sugars out of the tiny grooves in teeth. A special plastic coating is painted over the surface of the tooth and hardened using a bright light – no drilling necessary!

In most cases, we can assist your child with all of their dental treatment. Our dentists also work closely with dental specialists, such as orthodontists and pediatric dentists, when a referral is necessary to meet your child's individual needs.

Creating Healthy Habits

Dentistry for children is focused on teaching good habits, such as proper brushing and flossing, and making smart nutritional choices. Learn more about how to help your child develop a healthy oral hygiene routine.
