Montgomery Facial Esthetics Services to Complement Your Smile

You may have heard of BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) injection treatments for smoothing facial wrinkles and lines. Montgomery Dental Arts dentist Dr. Dominique Shamburger has completed advanced training in the application of BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX®, or Botulinum Toxin, is an injectable medical toxin used to interrupt the transmission of the signal sent by nerves to the muscles. By disrupting nerve communication, the muscles do not contract.

Perhaps the most familiar use of BOTOX® is in the facial muscles. As we age, repetitive movements from facial muscle contraction (think of frowning or squinting) lead to skin wrinkles or deep folds in the skin around the nose and mouth.

By injecting Botulinum Toxin into targeted locations and temporarily reducing muscle movement, lines and wrinkles around the forehead, chin, lips and brows soften, creating a more youthful appearance. BOTOX® treatments may be repeated over time for more lasting effects.

BOTOX® for Cosmetic Dentistry

In cosmetic dentistry, BOTOX® can be used to modify the shape of gum tissue around the teeth to fill ‘black triangles’ (gum tissue gaps) between the teeth. It can also be used to adjust the lip line and reduce the appearance of a ’gummy smile’.

BOTOX® Therapy for Pain Management

In addition to facial esthetics, BOTOX® has a number of medical-therapeutic uses, including treatment of TMJ (jaw joint) pain, migraines, excessive sweating, bladder problems or muscle spasms.

Dr. Dominique Shamburger provides BOTOX® treatments for relief of Bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) and TMJ (jaw joint) pain at our Montgomery Dental Arts practice. Learn more about TMJ/TMD.

What are Dermal Fillers?

As we age, our skin loses collagen and becomes less elastic, creating a sagging skin appearance, loose facial folds, wrinkles and decreased lip volume.

Dermal fillers are gel-like solutions that are injected under the skin to temporarily add volume and create a smooth, full appearance. Common dermal filler treatments include injections to smooth lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin, around the eyes, forehead and lips, or, to add volume where needed, such as the lips or cheeks.
